[Rosslyn, VA] – Reverend Bill Shuler and his family moved from Oklahoma to the DC area just 10 days before the September 11 terrorist attacks. In response to this tragedy, the Shulers established a prayer center one block from the U.S. Capitol building on September 12, 2001. One year later in August, those prayer meetings and Bible studies with national and international leaders launched Capital Life Church. Now five years later, Capital Life is a vibrant, interdenominational church of 300 who are making an incredible difference in the DC metro area.

The following are excerpts of a sermon given recently at Capital Life Church by the Rev. Bill Shuler:

Before Batman was featured in epic movies, there was the television series. Each week an exciting episode would end with Batman in some type of quandary. My favorite was the show where he was told by one of his mortal enemies to choose between three doors. Two would result in his demise as lions and other treacherous perils awaited. Behind one door, however, was freedom.

"I hope I'll never know exactly what that is like," said Bill Shuler, former campus pastor for Oral Roberts University and current pastor of Capital Life Church in northern Virginia. "And I know I won't because of my relationship with Jesus Christ."

The September 11 terrorist attacks hit just 10 days after the Rev. Bill Shuler and his family moved from Oklahoma to the D.C. area, prompting him to start a ministry that eventually would blossom into Capital Life Church.

In response to the attacks, the family established a prayer headquarters one block from the Capitol and began to pray for national and international leaders. Soon they were leading Bible studies for leaders. In August 2002, Capital Life Church was founded.
