Former Secret Service Agent Jerry Parr who pushed President Reagan into the limousine after six shots were fired on March 30, 1981 will be speaking at Capital Life Church at the Rosslyn Spectrum on Sunday, April 29 at 10 a.m.
"Jerry Parr’s bravery may have preserved history as we know it," said Reverend Bill Shuler of Capital Life Church. "His story, from the days he served as a Secret Service Agent to a life of ministering to others following the White House, is a testimony to the man." Parr began his agent career guarding Hubert Humphrey in 1964, but is most famous for his role in protecting President Ronald Reagan from an assassination attempt on Monday, March 30, 1981 as Reagan left the Washington Hilton. After pushing Reagan into the car and throwing himself on top of him, Parr realized Reagan had been shot and rushed him to George Washington Hospital. Secret Service Agent Timothy McCarthy was shot in the chest while protecting the president. Both agents are credited with saving Reagan’s life.
Parr will be sharing his experiences at Capital Life Church, which meets in the Rosslyn Spectrum off Wilson Boulevard on 1611 Kent Street, accessible by Metro on the Orange and Blue lines. Capital Life Church is a non-denominational community, and visitors are welcome. For more information, visit www.capitallifechurch.com. |
