Pastor Bill and Lisa Shuler | Lead Pastors
Pastor Bill Shuler and his family moved to the Washington, D.C. area on September 1, 2001 with a call from God to pioneer a ministry. Ten days later the Nation’s Capital and the world was shaken amidst terrorist strikes on the Pentagon and World Trade Center. In response to these tragic events, a national headquarters for prayer was leased one block from the U.S. Capitol building on September 12, 2001. This was the start of Capital Life Church.
Bill has ministered extensively throughout the United States and in over 30 nations of the world. He served for eight years as a University Chaplain and Dean of Spiritual Affairs at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During this time, he helped shape the lives of multiplied thousands of students, sent hundreds of students around the world on short term missions and spearheaded programs that mobilized over 25,000 volunteer hours into community service on a yearly basis.
Dr. Billy Graham recently expressed his appreciation for the “Godly heritage that continues through the Shuler family”. Dr. Graham’s biographer, William Martin, noted that Bill’s father, evangelist Jack Shuler, was “at least as popular as Billy Graham” during the 1940′s and 1950′s. Los Angeles Magazine called Bill’s Grandfather, Robert Shuler, the “first of the great radio preachers”. “Fighting Bob” Shuler pastored the famous Trinity Methodist Church in the heart of Los Angeles, California.Bill holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in theology and is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He was appointed by the Attorney General to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women. He and Lisa have been married since 1988 and have three daughters.
Lisa grew up in ministry as a “PK” (Preacher’s Kid) in California and Hawaii, and later earned a degree in Organizational/Interpersonal Communication with a minor in Music. She currently serves full time as co-pastor with Pastor Bill. She was honored to lead a Bible Study for staffers at the White House from 2001-2008. Her goals are to write books and to continue motivating others through public speaking, while prioritizing her relationship with Christ, her family and fulfilling her calling of influencing influencers.

“It is my great pleasure to recommend to you the ministry of Bill Shuler. He has filled our pulpit here on several occasions, each message followed with full altars and lifted souls and spirits. It was Bill’s father, the late Evangelist Jack Shuler, who led me to Christ as a teen-ager 50 years ago this year. As a student of communication, I have always believed that Jack was the greatest speaker I ever heard, bar none. Bill, the youngest son of this illustrious family, is following in his father’s steps. His spirit, his delivery, his content are superb. The last time Bill spoke here, the altar was filled from wall to wall with people coming to Christ. Bill has an open door here at First Assembly any time he chooses to come. Our people love him, and so do I! I believe you will too.”
