God is the Strength of Your Heart
Dr. Bill Shuler
God Is Still a Miracle-Working God: Faith, Healing, and the Power of Prayer
God is not distant, silent, or finished with miracles. He is active, present, and deeply involved in the details of your life right now. Whether you are carrying a burden, facing an impossible situation, or simply wondering if God truly sees you, this message is for you.
Does God Still Perform Miracles Today?
Some Christians hold to a belief called cessationism, the idea that miracles ended with the early church. But when you look at Scripture and at the lives of people who have walked closely with God, that view is hard to defend.
The question worth asking is simple: when did God's heart change? The answer is that it never did. There are still sick people. There are still impossible situations. And there is still a God who parts seas, shuts the mouths of lions, and walks with people through fire.
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not limit Him.

What the Bible Says About God Intervening in Human Affairs
Scripture is filled with moments where God stepped into what looked like the end of the story and rewrote it entirely.
These are not just ancient stories. They reveal the character of a God who enters human pain and rewrites impossible endings.
- The Parting of the Red Sea: With enemies closing in and no way forward, God made a way where there was none.
- Daniel in the Lion's Den: No one would have given Daniel a chance. God gave Him one, and the lions got lockjaw.
- Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: The fire was so hot it killed the soldiers who threw them in. Yet inside the furnace, there was a fourth figure, believed to be a christophany, Jesus present before Bethlehem, standing with them in the flames.
- The Raising of Lazarus: Jesus was not late. He was perfectly on time. And with the words "Lazarus, come forth," death itself had to obey.
These are not just ancient stories. They reveal the character of a God who enters human pain and rewrites impossible endings.
Jesus Enters Your Story Too
Before raising Lazarus, Jesus wept. He did not stand at a distance from the grief of Mary and Martha. He entered it. That is who He is.
"Jesus wept." - John 11:35
Jesus enters your story the same way. When you open your heart and invite Him in, He does not observe from a distance. He steps into your pain, your fear, your uncertainty, and He carries the greater weight.
He is also your great intercessor. Even when your own loved ones forget to pray for you, Jesus is interceding on your behalf. Every accusation, every weapon formed against you, He is working to cancel it out.

What Aligns Us to Receive What God Has for Us?
The story of Moses begins with a mother who refused to accept what the world said was inevitable. She made a basket, placed her baby in it, and sent him down the Nile with a prayer. That act of faith set in motion the story of the Great Deliverer.
God heard the cries of His people. He responded. That is the pattern throughout Scripture. Prayer is not about getting God's attention. He already has His attention on you. Prayer is about aligning your heart with His.
Abraham interceded for Sodom, negotiating with God over the fate of a wicked city. His prayer life was specific, urgent, and persistent. That kind of prayer goes far beyond asking for a blessed meal. It reaches into the purposes of God for an entire generation.

What Does 2 Chronicles 7:14 Mean for Us Today?
"If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14
This verse is both a national promise and a personal one. Humility, repentance, and seeking God's face are what position us to receive His healing and His answers. It is not about earning anything. It is about getting our hearts in the right place so we can receive what He already wants to give.
"I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord." - Jeremiah 30:17

What Does the Bible Say About Emotional and Physical Pain?
David, the greatest king of Israel and the author of most of the Psalms, was not immune to deep suffering. He wrote about feeling crushed in Spirit, bones in agony, and a heart that was failing. These were not casual complaints. They were the cries of a man walking through real darkness.
"My heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart." - Psalm 73:26
Studies confirm what Scripture has always shown: emotional pain registers in the brain the same way physical pain does. What happens on the inside affects the whole body. God knows this. That is why He sent Jesus not just to forgive sin but to heal the brokenhearted.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30
A yoke joins two together so they can pull a heavy load. The stronger one carries the greater weight. When you walk with God, He carries more than you do.

What Hinders Miracles From Happening?
Jesus performed only a limited number of miracles in His own hometown. The reason was unbelief. When people reduce Jesus to someone familiar and ordinary, they close themselves off to what He can do.
Another hindrance is misidentifying the enemy. The real battle is not against the difficult person in your life or the hard circumstance you are facing. Scripture is clear that we wrestle not against flesh and blood. The enemy wants to kill, steal, and destroy. Knowing that helps us understand why we need the One who came to give us abundant life.
Elijah is a powerful example. He had just called down fire from heaven and proven that God alone is God. The entire nation had turned back to Him. And then one threatening message from Jezebel sent Elijah under a juniper tree in despair. His focus had shifted from God to His enemy, and it nearly destroyed Him.

How Do You Keep the Right Perspective When Life Feels Overwhelming?
When something is consuming all of your attention, it can feel bigger than God. But the problem is not the size of your problem. It is the size of your view of God.
"Come, magnify the Lord with me." - Psalm 34:3
God does not need to be magnified. But our vision of Him does. When we see God in proper context, everything else falls into its rightful place. The things that felt impossible begin to look manageable because the God of the universe has His hand on them.
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." - Psalm 46:1-2
"Be still and know that I am God." - Psalm 46:10

What Does Suffering Produce in the Life of a Believer?
"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance character, and character hope. And hope does not put us to shame because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." - Romans 5:3-5
Perseverance is not passive. It is a steadfast commitment to keep going in spite of difficulty. There is someone or something on the other side of your obedience. Giving up too soon means missing what God has prepared.
Scars are anointed. What you have been through is not wasted. God heals your hurts so that you can heal the hearts of others. He takes what the enemy meant for destruction and turns it into something that brings life to the people around you.
Paul and Silas worshiped in prison. Not after the walls fell. Before. That is the kind of faith that moves mountains and shakes foundations.

What Is the Holy Spirit's Role in Your Healing and Wholeness?
The Holy Spirit is your advocate, your counselor, and your comforter. God has placed His seal within you by the Holy Spirit, and that Spirit is a guarantee that God's word will be fulfilled in your life. You will be whole. You will be healed. Not because of anything you have done, but because of what He has promised.
"So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10

Life Application
This week, identify one area of your life where you have been carrying a burden that feels bigger than God. It might be a health concern, a broken relationship, a financial pressure, or a lingering anxiety. Write it down. Then, intentionally place it before God in prayer each day this week, not to inform Him of something He does not know, but to align your heart with His and to practice seeing Him as larger than your circumstance.
Choose one of the Scripture passages from this message and read it out loud each morning. Let the word of God go forth over your situation. Remember that He sent out His word and healed them.
Ask yourself these questions as you go through the week:
God is not finished writing your story. He is the author of your narrative, and His plans for you are good. Do not limit Him.

Ask yourself these questions as you go through the week:
- Am I viewing my problem as bigger than God, or am I viewing God as bigger than my problem?
- Have I been trying to fight battles that belong to God, and what would it look like to release those today?
- Where in my life do I need to stop striving and simply be still, trusting that He is God?
- Is there someone in my life whose pain I could speak into because of what God has brought me through?
God is not finished writing your story. He is the author of your narrative, and His plans for you are good. Do not limit Him.
