How to Bring Healing Amidst Conflict
In recent weeks, our nation has experienced significant changes and divisions, especially following the election. This week we explore the role of the church in such times, emphasizing unity, trust in God's plan, and the importance of managing conflict with spiritual maturity. Let's delve into the key points and lessons from this powerful message.
God's Plan and Our Trust
God's Plan for Good
God's plan is always for our good, not to harm us. Trusting in His plan requires us to turn towards Him and submit ourselves to His will. This trust is crucial, especially in times of national division and personal conflict.
Unity in the Church
The church's role is to foster unity, not division. Just as our nation has faced and overcome divisions in the past, the church must lead by example, promoting peace and understanding among its members.

The Reality of Conflict
Historical Context
Our nation has a history of conflict, from the Civil War to world wars. These conflicts remind us of the deep divisions that can occur even within families and communities. The loss and sorrow experienced during these times highlight the importance of seeking peace and reconciliation.
Conflict in Relationships
Conflict is inevitable in relationships, whether within families or the church. How we handle these conflicts reflects our spiritual maturity. Seeking God's best in conflict resolution, rather than fighting to win, is a mark of true Christian character.

The Church's Role in Conflict
Being Salt and Light
As followers of Christ, we are called to be salt and light in the world. This means promoting peace and unity, even when the world around us is divided. Our actions and words should reflect the presence of Christ in our lives.
Perceived Threats and Disagreements
Conflict often arises from perceived threats to our needs, interests, or concerns. Understanding the root of these threats can help us address conflicts more effectively. It's essential to focus on resolving issues rather than defeating the other person.

Biblical Principles for Conflict Resolution
Jesus' Call for Unity
In John 17:22-23, Jesus prays for unity among His followers, just as He is one with the Father. This unity is a powerful testimony to the world of God's love and the truth of the Gospel.
Living at Peace with Everyone
Romans 12:18 encourages us to live at peace with everyone, as far as it depends on us. This means taking responsibility for our actions and seeking peace, even in difficult situations.
Forgiveness and Compassion
Ephesians 4:31-32 urges us to get rid of bitterness, rage, and anger, and to be kind and compassionate, forgiving each other just as Christ forgave us. Forgiveness is a crucial step in resolving conflicts and maintaining unity.

Practical Steps for Conflict Resolution
Five Conflict Styles
1.Competing: High assertiveness, low cooperation. Focuses on winning rather than resolving.
2.Accommodating: Unassertive, cooperative. One person gives in to avoid conflict.
3.Avoiding: Unassertive, uncooperative. One person withdraws from the conflict.
4. Collaborative: High assertiveness, high cooperation. Seeks to meet the needs of both parties.
5. Compromising: Intermediate assertiveness and cooperation. Both sides give up some to reach an agreement.
Choosing the Right Approach
Choosing the right conflict style depends on the situation. However, a collaborative approach often leads to the best outcomes, as it seeks to address the concerns of all parties involved.

1. Am I seeking to understand the other person's perspective?
2. Am I willing to forgive and let go of bitterness?
3. How can I promote unity and peace in my family, church, and community?
