Living on the Edge

Most people spend 60% of their lives working, yet many feel their jobs are too small for their spirit. There's a deeper truth we must understand - before we're called to do something, we're called to someone.

What is Your True Calling?

Your calling isn't defined by your job title or description. These may be tools to fulfill your calling, but your true calling is eternal. As stated in Jeremiah 29:11, God has specific plans to prosper you and give you hope and a future.

What Holds Us Back from Our Calling?

We often face "inhibitors" - things that keep us focused on the temporal rather than the eternal. The challenge is to move beyond these limitations and align ourselves with God's heart.

Signs You May Be Living Below Your Calling

  • Feeling your current role is too small for your spirit
  • Wondering if there's something more meaningful you should be doing
  • Sensing an unfulfilled purpose in your life
  • Living in ways that feel disconnected from eternal impact

How Do We Discover Our Calling?

Several pathways help us uncover and confirm our calling:
  • Scripture study - seeking God's guidance through His Word
  • Prayer - developing communion with God
  • Fellowship - learning from other believers
  • Godly counsel - seeking wisdom from mature Christians
  • Natural gifting - recognizing God-given abilities and their results

Take Action On Your Caling

The Bible teaches in Luke 16:10 that "whoever can be trusted in very little can be trusted in much." To walk in your calling:
  • Cast seed toward what the Holy Spirit is indicating
  • Gather with like-minded people
  • Educate yourself thoroughly
  • Ask for clarity and wisdom
  • Take proactive steps of obedience

Regaining Your Effectiveness

Using the story from 2 Kings 6:1-7, we learn important principles about maintaining effectiveness in our calling:
  • Recognize when you've lost your "cutting edge"
  • Be willing to identify where you lost effectiveness
  • Mark the spot for a miracle
  • Take action to recover what was lost
  • Trust God to restore your effectiveness

Life Application

This week, challenge yourself to:
  • Identify areas where you might have lost your "cutting edge" in serving God
  • Mark specific spots in your life where you need God's miraculous intervention
  • Take practical steps to realign with your divine calling
Ask yourself:
  • Am I living my life too small compared to God's calling?
  • Where have I lost my effectiveness for God's kingdom?
  • What specific steps can I take this week to move toward God's fuller purpose for my life?
Remember, loss is not the last word. God can restore and renew your effectiveness for His kingdom, regardless of past setbacks or current limitations.
